What’s the difference between Windows Vista and Windows XP?

I’m getting a new laptop and I’m pretty sure that the operating system on it is Windows Vista. What is that and why don’t the new computers have Windows XP? What’s the difference between them? I’m seriously confused!

Whats the difference between Windows Vista and Windows XP? Which do you prefer?
