i’m answering assuming you are copying home movies, or movies you own.. i would guess it is because your computer is not keeping up with the video… it is not rendering it fast enough. So where ever your computer lags behind and then jumps to catch up, you get a skip. when copying your movies, make sure yo uare not running any other applications, and your screen saver is turned off so as much memory as possible is available to the video rendering. Also, when you burn the dvd, burn it at the slowest speed. You might want to get some more ram
i know the issue you are referring to. I also had the same problem. I eventually decided it was my garbage $30 dvd burner that was causing the problem. When it was new, it would burn just fine, but now it is older and I think the laser might need to be cleaned and it freezes on playback towards then of every dvd that is burned like a regular dvd. What I did to work around the issue (without having to replace the drive) is re-encode my movies to divx, xvid or .avi files. This way, they only take up about 700-800mb instead of the 4.7gb normally used on a standard dvd5. This works really well assuming you have a standalone that can read a divx format or you are just watching them on the pc. Plus, you can put 3 or 4 movies on one disk so you don’t have to get off the couch as often!
