Microsoft announcedtoday that it would keep Windows XP (Home edition only) available until June 30, 2010 — not June 30, 2008, as originally planned. This is particularly lame as XP pro is used in most of the computers I build. How hard would it be to include PRO in the updates?
The idea that Microsoft is so short sighted and negligent on the release and forced implementation of Vista sickens me. They know full well that there is nothing wrong with the OS and that most users are finally happy with it. Gamers are forced into the upgrade because of DirectX 10 only being available on Vista machines.
My problem isn’t so much that they are fazing out an old Operating System, it’s that they are forcing a piece of crap on me as a replacement. XP pro 64bit isn’t even compatible on most of my software yet and they are forcing this bloatware resource hog of an OS on me, like it’s me that’s an ID10T for not wanting Windows ME part II installed on my smoothly running XP box. Upgrading solves everything according to Darth Vader Gates.
You know what else is making me a little more than ticked off at the Redmond Death Star? They are forcing companies like Acer to pull their already available drivers for XP on systems that ship with Vista.
In other words, you go out and buy a laptop with Vista, don’t want Vista on it, buy a copy of XP and want to install it on the Acer laptop. You used to be able to download the drivers for it before January ‘08 but now according to Acer’s support team, they were forced by Microsoft to pull the drivers. Yes, they are all gone from Acer’s website and their FTP server as well (I downloaded most of them). Why?
I just want an OS that doesn’t suck, doesn’t use more resources than the previous version to do nothing and lastly to make the work I do every day more efficient. Vista does none of the things I want it to, it looks pretty and that’s about all. I hate using it and I don’t like telling my clients to use Ubuntu or buy a Mac. So, what do you do?? Do you just say; “What-ever” and keep selling / recommending it to your clients? I have recommended Ubuntu and Macs to people because I have no love for Vista at all.
One last thought, Vista conjures pictures of a pinnacle or a peak when I hear it but it feels more like falling off the Vista to your peril to me.
